Caring for the skin is not just a modern concern; it has been practised since ancient times, when herbal skin care was no doubt the only way to take care of skin. However, herbal skin care has changed in the last few years. Natural skin care preparations have been replaced by chemical skin care products. Herbal skin care homemade preparations which once used to be common place are less popular today. This transformation from natural skin care to chemical-based preparations, may be blamed on two reasons – our lack of time and the commercialism of skin care preparations.

Even herbal skin care products have been commercialised. These over the counter herbal skin care preparations have to be mixed with preservatives to lengthen their shelf-life, hence making them less useful than the freshly prepared ones made at home.
